*FOREIGN ANCESTRY AMONG WEST COAST INDIANS*!                                                 🙏For the first time in the history of India’s beauty pageant the nominees for Miss Universe and Miss World are both from same caste, same language and originally from same district in South India. Miss Universe nominee Divita Rai and Miss world Nominee Sini Shetty both originally hail from Coastal Karnataka districts, both are of Tulu speaking Bunts (Shetty) caste.  How such a small community with just 15 lakh population could produce not only these two beauty pageant contestants but also filmdom beauties like: Super Heroine of Telugu films ‘six feet tall’ Anushka Shetty, and Pooja Hegde, Bollywood heroines like Shilpa Shetty and Aishwarya Rai, Tamil Heroine Kriti Shetty, Paki Hegde of Bhojpuri Films, Shefali Shetty of Gujarati filmland, and many heroines in native Kannada filmland like Shubha Poonja, Bhavyasri Rai, Kavya,  Neha Shetty.  These beauties may be called as ”Pepper Queens” since their good look is associated with Pepper (kali mirch) Trade with foreign Countries in ancient days.  In 16th Century the Queen of Ullala Abbakka Chowta, and queen of Gerusoppa Chennabhaira devi were hailed as “Pepper Queens” by Portuguese merchants as these queens were controlling the entire pepper trade in Coastal Karnataka.
Many Bunts (Shetty) men are also more than six feet tall, which is rare among other South Indians, and they are also in Film line and Sports field in big numbers.
If you make DNA mapping of people from Trivandrum in Kerala to Saurashtra in Gujarat (Sindh in Pakistan too) you will find that Hindus of these areas do not have pure Indian or Dravidian genes. West coast of India spread across five states like Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra and Gujarat (and also Sindh now in Pak) was engaged in foreign trade by Sea route with Arabia, Persia, Syria, Yemen, Mesopotamia, since more than 3000 years, that is before any hardcore Religions were born in India or Arabian countries. Kerala coast had monopoly in exporting all kinds of Spices and Karnataka Coast had monopoly on black Pepper exports.
Prior to 14th Century no one in the civilized world knew about Chilly (laal Mirchi). Before the exploration of American Continent the entire Europe and Asia was using only black pepper for pungent taste in their food and this pepper was fully supplied by Coastal Karnataka to entire civilized world.  In 1492 AD the Spanish explorer Columbus discovered South America and brought the seeds of Chilly plant from South America and spread it in entire Europe. The Portuguese merchants brought the chilly seeds to India around 1500 AD.  As per the local soil quality the different kinds of chilly plants grew in India. After the cultivation of chilly began all over Europe and Asia around 1500 AD, the demand for black pepper from Karnataka coast dwindled sharply and the foreign trade of pepper almost stopped. But before that, for more than 2500 years Karnataka Coast had monopoly on Pepper cultivation (forest product) and hence made it inevitable for the merchants from Middle East to come to India to purchase pepper and distribute it in Europe and Middle East Asia.  During that period some of the foreign merchants settled in our west coast and married local women. Due to such mix of genes the local merchant communities like Jains and Bunts (Shettys) got good looking next generations. Even in Kerala and coastal Maharashtra we can find the Arabian genes among local Hindus.  Above all many Muslim Demi gods (Arabi bhootas) are worshipped by Hindus in coastal Karnataka, which proves the cultural relation of people of this Pepper Land with Arabian Countries.  According to local legend the Demigod (Bhoota) Bobbarya’s father Haji Sulikal Murava Byari was an Arabian Merchant and his mother Duggu Shetty was a Jain-Bunt).
Freedom fighter Balgangadhar Tilak has clearly written 120 years ago in one of his books that the ‘Chitpawan Brahmins’ concentrating in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra coast were originally from Israel (one of the lost tribes mentioned in Bible) and hence more than 30% of Chitpawan Brahmins have “cat eyes”, sharp nose and bleached skin. In Gujarat also the excavations in Harappan sites like Dholavira, Lothal and Dwarka, have proved that Gujarat coast had flourishing trade link with Mesopotamia, Persia and Arabian countries. Hence in Gujarat the Hindu trading communities have Iranian surname like SHAH.
Besides, the pepper was supplied to even entire North India by Karnataka Coast for 3000 years. The Karnataka pepper was transported till Gujarat or Sindh by Sea route, and from Gujarat or Sindh it was supplied to entire North India & Afghanistan by land route. Hence Gujarat traders were so rich when Ghajini Mohammad attacked Somnath. During that period many Gujarati, Sindhi & Rajasthani merchants who came for Pepper trading, must have settled in Karnataka west coast. Traces of Pepper were found during excavations in Mohanjodaro-Harappa also, (Harappan culture is 5000 years old). That is why even today the coastal Karnataka Jains and Bunts have Gujarati-Sindhi-Rajasthani Hindu/Jain surnames like: Poonja, Banga, Kothari, Bhandari, Adhikari, Gambhir, Shekha, Kava, Shenva, Verma, Atrey, Rai, Chowta, Padiwal, Padiyar, Kille, Konde, Maane, Mudiya, Menda, Munda, Mundara, Kundada, Kambali, Vala/Walia, Bariya, Samanta, Sooda, Samani, Baithani.  Besides, many more North Indian surnames got little distorted as per local Tulu-Kannada pronunciation and have continued even now among Mangalorean Bunts & Jains. Bunts have 95 surnames most of which have no meaning in Tulu or Kannada (see Wikipedia by typing as Surname of Bunts Community), This proves that these Surnames are not of Karnataka origin.
Even famous Kannada writer & researcher Dr.Indira Hegade has written in her Book on Bunts Community Origin that Bunts/Nadavas may be from Gurjar Community migrated from Gujarat, Rajasthan and hence they have Gujaran or Gurjaran Bali-Bari and also have many surnames of Solanki (Kshatriya) Community of Gurjara desha that is present Gujarat.
It is said that, when Alexander invaded India he stayed in Northwest India for 19 months with his Army of one lakh soldiers spread across Punjab Haryana Sindh area.  But when he returned back to Greece many of his Greek, Persian, and Turkish soldiers deserted his Army and stayed back in India and married local girls and settled in India by adopting local Religions & customs prevalent then. Besides Northwest India like Punjab & Sindh was called as ‘Doormat’ of  foreign invaders. Hence many Punjab, Sindh, Haryana and Kashmir people have inherited good features of Greek, Persian, Turkish soldiers (and now dominating Bollywood because of their good looks). Similarly in South India the martial race of Coorgis (Kodavas) of Karnataka have different (Arabian) features even though they speak a Dravidian language. The Coorgis marriage rituals & marriage dress of the groom with sword even today resembles that of Syria & Yemen. These Coorgis are said to have migrated to present Kodagu region through same Karnataka West Coast which was trading in Pepper. So DNA mapping of entire west coast of India spread across five states, will clearly reveal the mixed DNA of people of the west coast and why they have good looks and better physical features, besides dominating and somewhat arrogant nature!

(🙏🙏I am a Senior Citizen. Since communal hatred is spreading very deep in our West Coast due to political reasons, I have written this article, so that the people of this Region can know their mixed Ancestry!  I have put up a service of 38 years in a North based Public Sector Bank and worked in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, besides Mumbai. Hence I had the opportunity to study the history and life style of various castes, communities & linguistic groups in these States).
