Bombay High Court grants bail to the three accused doctors Bhakti Mehre, Hema Ahuja and Ankita Khandelwal. The three doctors were accused of abetment of suicide of Dr. Payal Tadvi.  The three will have to submit a surety of Rs 2 Lakh and appear before the crime branch every alternate day. They are not allowed to travel outside Mumbai without permission and not allowed to go inside Nair Hospital.

Dr. Payal Tadvi, who belonged to the Scheduled Tribe community, committed suicide in her hostel room at BYL Nair hospital on May 22. Since her suicide, the family had accused the three doctors who had been harassing her with casteist slurs on a daily basis.

During the investigation, the team found that there was a handwritten suicide note that was destroyed by the three doctors after she was found hanging in her room. They also deleted the suicide note from her phone. But the investigating team managed to retrieve it.

The suicide note details her daily ordeal under the hands of the three senior doctors and how her complaints were ignored by the Department head. Based on the suicide letter retrieved from her phone and statements from the colleagues, the three doctors were booked under charges of abetment of suicide and under SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.
